Thermal and Fire Protection for Defense Platforms
European-made, ITAR-free thermal barriers for land, sea, air and space defense systems — engineered for performance, survivability, and strategic autonomy.
The challenge
Perform and survive. Thermal management matters on both sides.
On the performance side, propulsion systems, missile motors, power electronics, radar systems, and dense electronic payloads generate significant thermal loads that must be managed for the platform to operate at full capability. On the survivability side, fire containment in crew compartments, thermal signature reduction, and protection of sensitive systems determine whether a platform — and its crew, if any — can endure. In both cases, the thermal barrier must be thin, lightweight, and highly reliable.
Procurement constraints add an additional layer: supply chain transparency, regulatory compliance, and absence of export-control dependencies are often mandatory qualification criteria in defense acquisition programs.
How Skogar® solves it
Thermal performance and supply chain transparency in one product.
Fire & thermal protection
Skogar® provides fire containment and thermal insulation for crew compartments, engine bays, ammunition storage, and electronic systems. UL94 V-0 and FAR 25.853 certified, flame-resistant, with operational temperature capabilities from −195 °C to +1700 °C (depending on the selected substrate and thickness).
Thermal signature management
With a thermal conductivity starting at 0.012 W/(m·K), Skogar® reduces heat emission from platforms and subsystems — contributing to infrared signature reduction on vehicles, vessels, and shelters where thermal discretion matters.
Supply chain compliance
Manufactured in France by a European-owned entity. Not subject to ITAR controls. Designed for traceable supply chains, with documentation support suitable for defense procurement and qualification processes. Proprietary IP with no licensing dependency. REACH compliant.
Why defense procurement teams choose Skogar®
🔒 ITAR-free
Not subject to ITAR-control, simplifying procurement and geopolitical risks.
🇫🇷 European-owned & manufactured
Production site in Rochetoirin, France. Independent company — no foreign ownership, no licensing exposure. Almost exclusively sourced from European suppliers.
📋 EN 9100 — targeted 2027-Q2
Aerospace & Defense quality management certification in progress. ISO 9001 already in place. Full production traceability and documentation.
0.5 mm · 130 kg/m³
Ultra-thin and lightweight. Integrates into existing platform designs without adding bulk or compromising payload capacity.
Recommended grades for defense applications
Grade selection depends on the thermal environment, platform type, and integration constraints. All grades are produced at the same European facility with identical quality controls.
Skogar® ST
Electronics, signature management, structural insulation
Rigid glass fiber substrate. From 0.5 mm. Best choice for thin-profile thermal barriers on electronic systems, sensor housings, and IR signature reduction layers. 0.012–0.015 W/(m·K). UL94 V-0.
Skogar® HT ★
Fire zones, engine bays, crew protection
Flexible preox fiber substrate. From 2.0 mm. Conforms to complex platform geometries. FAR 25.853 certified. Up to 1300 °C short-time exposure. The go-to grade for fire protection on armored vehicles, naval vessels, and airborne platforms.
Skogar® VHT & UHT
Extreme thermal environments
Semi-rigid, silica or ceramic fiber substrates. VHT up to 1400 °C, UHT up to 1700 °C. Both FAR 25.853 certified. For exhaust systems, missile propulsion zones, and high-temperature zones on military platforms.
Use cases
Naval battery systems
Thermal runaway protection for Li-ion battery packs in torpedoes, naval drones, and submarine systems. Inter-cell barriers and casing insulation in confined, high-risk environments where a thermal event has nowhere to go.
Propulsion & high-heat zones
Propulsion insulation, guidance electronics protection, and thermal shielding for airframe structures. High-speed flight regimes generate intense aerodynamic heating — Skogar® protects internal electronics and sensitive subsystems from heat soak during the flight phase. UHT handles temperatures up to 1700 °C while remaining significantly thinner and lighter than conventional high-temperature insulation solutions.
Unmanned platforms
Ground and air drones for observation, logistics, or strike missions. Battery thermal protection, motor insulation, and IR signature reduction — where weight is directly traded against range and endurance.
Vehicle fire protection & IR camouflage
Fire containment for crew compartments and engine bays on armored vehicles. Skogar® can also contribute to reduced infrared observability.
Weapon signature management
A hot gun barrel is visible on any thermal imager. Skogar® wraps around heat-emitting weapon systems — cannons, barrels, exhaust ports — to reduce their IR footprint on the battlefield.
